Cousins Trip 2013 Q1

Nathaniel, Alana, and Kaila had a great weekend of fun in March.  We have the pictures to prove it!

The trip was an adventure from the start.  While driving on the Interstate, near Tri-Cities, we got hit with a short but forceful hail storm.  Then before we got to Prosser, WA I received a call from my mother who said she thought the Interstate was closed on Snoqualmie Pass.  We were planning on stopping before the pass no matter what, but I was so happy that she called because I immediately called up to Elensburg and got one of the last hotel rooms in the area.

We got up and back on the road around 8AM the next morning, and arrived at Mike and Tirza's at lunch time.  In the afternoon we played around the house until Mike arrived home from work, then we made a trip to the park about 3 blocks from their house.  The kids play area of this part was the best I have ever seen, and everybody had fun running around and exploring for a couple hours.

Saturday morning we went to an Easter egg hunt put on by Alana and Kaila's play group at 10:30.  Grandma helped Nathaniel find the first egg, then after that he found a few of his own until he spotted the coolest thing ever, a hill with a statue on top.  For the next 30 minutes Nathaniel, Kaila, I and some other children ran up and down the hill.  After lunch we all went down to a rocky beach near their house and explored and played with the rocks.

Sunday mornings are special in the Shaffer house when Mike cooks breakfast.  Nathaniel was very excited about receiving Mickey Mouse Pancakes!  At low tide that morning Bob, Mike, Lacy, and I went to harvest some famous Penn Cove oysters.  Tirza and the kids enjoyed themselves at a 3^rd birthday party.  The rest of the day we just hung out around the house, cleaning muscles, and played outside a little because the weather was not the best.

Monday was an exciting day of adventure.  First we went to Deception Pass, where the beach was full of sand, skipping rocks, and sea glass.  The view from Deception Pass was great as well.  For lunch we went to Anacortes, then went on a little drive to the top of the point on the North East end of town.  We saved the best view of the trip for last when we went on top of Mt. Erie.  We then finished the trip with a nice dinner of pizza and chocolate bunnies!
